Easter Sunday Page 4

Dear Friends in Christ:

Alleluia! Alleluia! Alleluia! Jesus Christ is Risen!

Throughout the forty days of the season of Lent, our spiritual journey has led us to use the tools of: increased prayer, fasting and almsgiving

through charitable good deeds to respond to the call to grow deeper in relationship with the Lord through the gift of our Catholic faith – to turn away from sin and be faithful to the Gospel and to remember that we are dust and unto dust we shall all return. As we celebrate the resurrection of Jesus, our faith tells us that the Risen Lord lives in each person and loves every person. The Risen Christ is among us today – healing and teaching, suffering, dying and rising to new life. It is through our lives joined with Jesus in our baptism that we share in his glorious resurrection. The celebration of Mass is for us the occasion to renew our commitment to the Lord and renew the promises made at baptism. May we respond in faith to the grace of the Risen Christ and grow in the love of God and each other. May the joy of these 50 days of the season of Easter enliven our faith as we strive to share it with others. Listed in this bulletin are prayers for the Blessing of the First Meal at Easter and for the Blessing of Homes During the Easter Season. Consider gathering with your family and offering these prayers together. On behalf of the clergy team of Saint Katharine Drexel Parish, Father Ed, Father Don, Deacon Tom Raymond and Seminarian John Kist, together with the members of the pastoral staff, we express to each of you and your family members and friends our sincere prayers and best wishes for a blessed and holy season of Easter!

“The greatest of all feast days is Easter Day,

the day of the Lord’s Resurrection, because today assurance

was given to us to obtain eternal and immortal life in

soul and body. Christ gave it to us through his

resurrection, which is the cause of the assurance of

our resurrection”

Fifth Anniversary Saint Katharine Drexel Parish

On Saturday, April 2, 2022, Bishop Zubik celebrated holy Mass at our parish as we marked our Fifth Anniversary! In his homily, Bishop Zubik thanked the people of the parish for the beautiful ways of working together to form the parish over these five years. The Bishop also said that our parish was the first to come together in the “On Mission for the Church Alive!” planning process and he said that the entire Diocese has looked to our parish as a model blueprint for the other groupings of parishes coming together to form new parishes in the Diocese of Pittsburgh.

The Social and Outreach Organization arranged a wonderful dinner that followed the Mass with the Bishop. Special thanks to the leaders and members of the Social & Outreach organization for the delicious dinner! Thank you to the Knights of Columbus Fourth Degree Color Corp for their presence at Mass.

Happy Fifth Anniversary Saint Katharine Drexel Parish!

Prayer for Blessing of the First Meal of Easter

Leader: Christ is risen! Alleluia! He is risen indeed! Alleluia!

Introduction:

Leader: Throughout Lent we have been preparing for the resurrection of the Lord by prayer, almsgiving, and fasting. Our Lenten fasting is a reminder of our hunger and thirst for holiness which is satisfied only by Christ who feeds and nourishes us by his word and sacraments. When we gather at our first meal of Easter may this food be a sign for us of that heavenly banquet to which he Lord calls us. Prayer:

Leader: Let us pray. God of glory, the eyes of all turn to you as we celebrate Christ’s victory over sin and death. Bless us and this food of our first Easter meal. May we who gather at the Lord’s table continue to celebrate the joy of his resurrection and be admitted finally to his heavenly banquet. Grant this through Christ our Lord. Amen. Leader: May Christ nourish us and strengthen us in faith and love, now and for ever. Amen.

Prayer for Blessing of Homes During the Easter Season

Leader: Let us pray. Lord, we rejoice in the victory of your Son over death: by rising from the tomb to new life he gives us new hope and promise. Bless all the members of this household and surround them with your protection, that they may find comfort and peace in Jesus Christ, the paschal lamb, who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, for ever and ever. Amen. (As circumstances suggest, you may take holy water from your church that is blessed during the Easter season and bless the members of your family and your home. During the sprinkling you may say): Leader: Let this water call to mind our baptism in Christ, who by his death and resurrection has redeemed us. Concluding Rite: Leader: May Christ Jesus dwell with us, keep us from all harm, and make us one in mind and heart, now and for ever. Amen.

Synod on Synodality

Pope Francis has called the universal Church to journey together. This Synod is not just another meeting with people providing presentations and written reports. This Synod is a process of journeying together by listening, dialoguing, praying, discerning and making decisions together for the purpose of proclaiming the Gospel of Jesus Christ. Pope Francis is asking each diocese in the world to gather – clergy, religious and laity together – to listen to each other. The goal of this journeying together is not to create a new vision or pastoral plan. The goal of our journeying together is to be present with one another, to listen and learn with each other, and to grow closer to the Lord and His Church, especially in a post-pandemic world. Below is the Prayer for the Synod that all of us are called to pray.

Prayer for the Synod 2021-2023

Communion, Participation & Mission

We stand before You, Holy Spirit, as we gather together in Your name.

With You alone to guide us, make Yourself at home in our hearts;

Teach us the way we must go and how we are to pursue it.

We are weak and sinful; do not let us promote disorder.

Do not let ignorance lead us down the wrong path nor partiality influence our actions.

Let us find in You our unity so that we may journey together to eternal life

and not stray from the way of truth and what is right.

All this we ask of You, who are at work in every place and time,

in the communion of the Father and the Son, forever and ever.

Amen. www.katharinedrexelpgh.org/parish-synod-organizer

Prayer for End of War between Russia and Ukraine

God our Father,

We pray for the people of the Ukraine and the people of Russia;

for their countries and their leaders.

We pray for all those who are afraid; that your everlasting arms hold them in this time

of great fear.

We pray for all those who have the power over life and death;

that they will choose for all people life, and life in all its fullness.

We pray for those who choose war;

that they will remember that you direct your people

to turn our swords into ploughshares and seek for peace.

We pray for leaders on the world stage;

that they are inspired by the wisdom and courage of Christ.

Above all, Lord, we pray for peace for Ukraine.

Through our Lord Jesus Christ your Son, who lives and reigns

with you in the unity of the Holy Spirit, God forever and ever.

Amen.

Parish Share Campaign 2022

This weekend of February 26-27, 2022 our parish will participate in a diocesan-wide Giving Weekend, inviting all parishioners to show their love for God by making a pledge to the Parish Share Program.

Parish Share supports ministries ranging from assistance to women with crisis pregnancies to providing payroll services that ease the administrative burdens of parishes and schools. It helps us act as One Body in Christ as we support ministry in places that we may never visit. Please pray over what you will give.

Text OneBodyInChrist to 84576 to receive stories about all the good things your donation to Parish Share will help to accomplish.

In God’s eyes, we truly are one church, one family. As parishioners, we are part of a parish, which is part of a diocese, which is part of the global Catholic Church established by God 2,000 years ago. Together, as One Body in Christ, we can accomplish so much more than any one person or parish could do alone. The Catholic Church defends human life and dignity, comforts the sick and dying, and provides for the poor. At the heart of the mission of our Catholic faith is to share the Gospel through Church teachings and ministries. Giving to the Church is an act of worship that shows our gratitude for God’s blessings. God measures our gifts not by their size, but by the love and generosity with which they are given. When he saw a poor widow give pennies in the Temple, he called it a greater gift than the donations of the wealthy, because she gave sacrificially from her love for God. Your gift matters and is greatly appreciated. Together we will continue to be the face of Christ and share His love through the many ministries supported through Parish Share. Faith Formation

Through your generosity to Parish Share, the Diocese of Pittsburgh provides training and formation to volunteer and professional catechists. They work alongside parents to raise children in the faith, and to help adults grow deeper in their understanding of and love for Jesus. Vocations

Your gifts to Parish Share help men discern whether they may have a call to priesthood or the diaconate. You support our priestly formation program, which evaluates and selects these candidates, steeps them in Catholic teaching and spirituality and provides parish experience to hone their pastoral skills. Thanks to Parish Share, our priests are trained close to home, among the people they will serve. Marriage and Family Life

Parish Share supports marriage preparation and marriage enrichment. Your gifts help parents to raise children in the faith. You help couples in troubled marriages renew their love. Thanks to your gifts, the Diocese of Pittsburgh offers ministries of accompaniment to those who are separated or divorced and does not charge fees to anyone seeking an annulment. Marriage and Family Life Parish Share supports marriage preparation and marriage enrichment. your gifts, the Diocese of Pittsburgh offers ministries of accompaniment to those who are separated or divorced and does not charge fees to anyone seeking an annulment. Sharing Jesus’ Love

Through Parish Share, you are helping people work as the face, hands, and feet of Jesus to the homeless, a woman with a crisis pregnancy, a sick person without medical care or a hurting child. Parish Share supports the work of Catholic Charities and its social service outreach in every county of the Church of Pittsburgh.

The assessment as issued by the Diocese of Pittsburgh for Saint Katharine Drexel Parish in 2022 is 76,102.00

Would you please consider making a check payable in the amount of $350.00? You are asked to be as generous as you

are able according to your means. Also, a reminder that all funds collected over our assessment again remains for use by our parish and not considered income that is assessable. May God abundantly bless you for your generosity!
