Objectives of NRLM
NRLM is the restructured version of Swarnajayanti Grameen Swarojgaar Yojna (SGSY). It is a Flagship Programme for elimination of Rural Poverty from Ministry of Rural Development(GoI). It aims to reduce poverty by enabling the poor households by accessing gainful Self Employment and skilled wage employment opportunities resulting in a sustainable livelihoods
Objectives of NRLM•Universal social mobilization .
•Building strong gross root Institutions of Poor.
•Universal financial Inclusion, make Poor reap benefits of all Govt. schemes as entitlements.
•Training/capacity building and skill building .
•Enhanced package of economic assistance for setting-up of micro enterprises and larger role for Self Help Groups (SHGs).
Implementation in J&K
In Jammu & Kashmir, the Scheme was launched on February 2013 under the name “UMEED”, by Jammu & Kashmir Rural Livelihoods Society, which aims at providing the platform of SHG to the 900000 rural women across 22 districts of J&K:
•Make them Self Reliant by investing in livelihoods .•Unleash their Potential.•Unleash their Potential.•Empower them.
JKRLM has made significant progress in mobilizing the poor and vulnerable women into community institutions. JKSRLM has also supported these women SHGs through provisioning of RF and CIF to invest in their existing livelihoods activities. JKSRLM has linked these SHGs to banks as well through its, SHG Bank linkage programme for enabling them to access easy credit and invest in enhanced livelihoods
