Call to Reconciliation (please be seated) Trusting in God’s steadfast love, let us confess our sin.

Silent Confession

Kyrie Lee J. Afdahl

Unison Prayer of Confession God of light and love, we cherish the religious experiences we’ve had. We need those times to energize us and renew our faith. Forgive us when we cling to those experiences, missing opportunities and challenges that help us grow in faith. Forgive us our spirits of timidity, our failure to move on, to come down from the mountain to do the ministry to which you called us. Forgive us for being so comfortable living in ruts and routine. Give us courage to seek out new vision for acting upon our faith. Through Christ who gives us light and life. Amen.

Words of Life The good news of our faith is this: if we call upon God we will be answered and forgiven. That promise gives us peace and joy. Praise be to God! Amen.

Hymn of Praise For the Beauty of the Earth Conrad Kocher, arr. Richard A. Nichols

Katie Keller, alto saxophone

Passing of the Peace Due to health concerns in this cold and flu season, please refrain from shaking hands and greet each other with a word of peace or a wave of the hand.

The peace of Christ be with you. And also with you. Let us share a sign of the peace of Christ with one another!

The Word

Prayer for Illumination (please be seated) It Is Well with My Soul VILLE DU HAVRE, arr. Bill Ingram

Alleluia Ringers

Reading from the Gospels Matthew 5:13-20

Anthem Psalm 68 Jane Marshall

Sing to God, sing to God, sing praises of his name Lift up a song to him who rides, who rides up on the clouds His name is the Lord, exult before him! Sing to God, sing to God, sing praises of his name Lift up a song to him who rides, who rides up on the clouds who rides upon the clouds!

Anthem Consider the Lilies Natalie Sleeth

Consider the lilies and how they grow, Blossoming there in the field, 'Tis not for their labor they flourish so, Flowers of beauty to yield. Through the grace of God above, tending all in constant love, Ev'ry want shall be supplies, For God the Lord will provide. Consider a moment the birds in flight, Ev'rywhere filling the air, With never a worry they seek the height, Nourished in bountiful share. Store not up in great array treasures for the coming day; In the Kingdom first believe, and all good things you shall receive. For more than the lilies that bloom and grow, More than the birds of the air, Your Maker forever you need will know and feed you with heavenly share. God, the Lord, the loving Lord, will ev'ry blessing provide.

Message A Different Kind of Fast Rev. T. J. Parlette

A moment for reflection – may God continue to speak to us in the silence.

Our Response

Hymn 190 Swiftly Pass the Clouds of Glory GENEVA

Affirmation of Faith The Apostles’ Creed (Traditional) I believe in God the Father Almighty, Maker of heaven and earth, And in Jesus Christ his only Son our Lord; who was conceived by the Holy

Ghost, born of the Virgin Mary, suffered under Pontius Pilate, was crucified, dead, and buried; he descended into hell; the third day he rose again from the dead; he ascended into heaven, and sitteth on the right hand of God the Father Almighty; from thence he shall come to judge the quick and the dead.

I believe in the Holy Ghost; the holy catholic church; the communion of saints; the forgiveness of sins; the resurrection of the body; and the life everlasting. Amen.

Hymn 611 Joyful, Joyful, We Adore Thee HYMN TO JOY

Benediction

Benediction Response Everywhere I Go Natalie Sleeth

Everywhere I go the Lord is near me. If I call upon Him, He will hear me. Never will I fear, for the Lord is here, everywhere I go.

In the dark of night, should things alarm me, never in His sight, no ill may harm me. I will be of cheer, for the Lord is here, everywhere I go.

He is with me, day by day. He will be my strength and stay. From His path I will not stray but follow in His way!

In the coming days of joy or sadness, I will praise His name with songs of gladness. For to me it's clear for the Lord is here, everywhere I go. ©1975 Chorister's Guild. All rights reserved.
